5.2: The 144,000 are not one movement's consecrated workers

Revelation 7 explicitly identifies the 144,000 as sealed "of all the tribes of the children of Israel," naming twelve tribes, twelve thousand each. Whether one reads this literally of Israel or symbolically of the complete, perfectly numbered totality of God's elect (as sovereign grace interpreters generally do, twelve, the number of the covenant people, squared and multiplied by a thousand, signifying completeness), neither a literal nor a symbolic reading naturally yields "unmarried employees of a modern denomination." Moreover, the very next verses show the great unnumbered multitude in white robes before the throne, serving God day and night in His temple, with the Lamb dwelling among them, the lower-tier believers of the attainment system's scheme somehow occupy the same throne room. And the 144,000 in Revelation 14 are described as "redeemed from among men, being the firstfruits unto God and to the Lamb", redeemed, not self-consecrated. The "virgins" language (Revelation 14:4) is covenant-fidelity symbolism (2 Corinthians 11:2, "that I may present you as a chaste virgin to Christ", said of the whole Corinthian church, married members included), not a celibacy requirement, or else the passage would exclude the apostle Peter, a married man (1 Corinthians 9:5, Matthew 8:14).
